Itinerary

Angra dos Reis Itinerary

You board at BR Marinas Verolme in Angra dos Reis on Sunday morning, slipping lines into a warm, emerald sea dotted with jungle-covered islands. A gentle sail brings you quickly to Lagoa Azul, a luminous anchorage known for snorkeling in clear, shallow water. After a leisurely swim and lunch aboard, you continue a short distance to Saco do Céu, one of the most protected anchorages on Ilha Grande, where the still water mirrors the surrounding mangroves. As night falls, the anchorage becomes glassy and quiet—your first evening spent under a sky thick with stars.

After breakfast, you cruise along Ilha Grande’s wild western coastline to Enseada de Araçatiba, a broad, sheltered bay ideal for a relaxed morning swim and paddleboarding session. In the afternoon, you move toward Praia Vermelha, where the jungle presses right to the sand. Go ashore to explore quiet trails or simply enjoy the beach.Dinner is ashore at Lua e Mar, a rustic waterfront spot known for fresh seafood and a laid-back island atmosphere.

A short sail brings you into Sitio Forte, a narrow, fjord-like inlet with excellent protection and calm water—perfect for a morning swim or paddle along the shoreline. By afternoon, you continue to Vila do Abraão, the island’s main village. Anchor just offshore and go ashore to explore shops, cafés, and small streets lined with tropical foliage. This is a lively contrast to the secluded anchorages. Dinner tonight is at Dom Mario Restaurante, offering traditional Brazilian dishes with views over the harbor.

You depart Ilha Grande and enjoy one of the longer sails of the week toward Paraty. The coastline grows more dramatic, with steep jungle-clad mountains plunging into the sea. You enter Saco do Mamanguá, a rare tropical fjord, anchoring deep inside its calm, protected waters. Spend the afternoon kayaking or hiking to viewpoints overlooking the inlet. The stillness here feels remote and untouched—a reminder that much of this coastline remains wild and preserved.

A short morning sail takes you into Paraty’s bay, where you either anchor or take a berth at a marina. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the UNESCO-listed historic center, known for its preserved colonial architecture and cobbled streets that flood gently with the tide. Wander art galleries, churches, and boutiques before settling into dinner at Banana da Terra, one of the town’s most celebrated restaurants, blending local ingredients with refined Brazilian cuisine. This is your first marina night—showers, a proper stroll, and a vibrant town atmosphere.

You begin the return journey, stopping at Ilha Comprida, a postcard-perfect stretch of white sand and calm, swimmable water. Enjoy a long lunch, beach time, and a final swim in the warm Atlantic. By late afternoon, you sail back toward Angra dos Reis, weaving through the countless islands that define this cruising ground—over 300 islands scattered across calm, protected waters. You arrive back at BR Marinas Verolme by early evening for your final night aboard at the marina.

Brazil Voyage FAQ

Brazil

Q. What is the water like in Costa Verde, Brazil in May?

Averages: 80 degrees during the day, 70 degrees at night. The humidity level is at 85% with an average of 3 inches of rain for the month of May. Best of all, the water is a perfect 78 degrees!

Q. Who is best for this trip?

If you're open minded, flexible, and adventurous, this trip is for you! There will be lots of boat and swim time as we explore the secluded sandy beaches and coves. This is an exploratory adventure and you should be ok with tropical environments. Most importantly, this trip is a 'go with the flow' adventure.

Q. What about the seas, will it be calm? What about the wind?

It will be! Angra dos Reis is a ginormous bay protected from the Atlantic Ocean waters. Seas are calm. It is not the windiest of locations, which means we will set the main sail and the jib but we will do a combination of sailing when there is wind and motor sailing when there is limited wind.
