Venture into the northern reaches of the Windward Islands and you’ll see a Caribbean that excels at the adventure chilling that we love. Beginning in Martinique, an overseas territory of France, this exploration will take you from present days to long before Christopher Columbus sailed past in 1493, a time when the Taino and Arawak lived in this island chain. Martinique is vibrantly beautiful, and the towns here are best approached from the water as they have always been. Sailing north to Dominica will take us to yet another Caribbean, this one more sleepy and natural. Dominica in all of its volcanic glory has rustic charm in plenty thanks to it’s large swaths of wilderness and rugged terrain. This is a place for hiking to waterfalls and sneaking upriver into the mangroves on a small boat. We will bath in hot springs, snorkel on a rare volcanic reef, and eat freshly picked fruit.
The Martinique / Dominica / St Lucia itinerary is a 7 day journey circumnavigating the island with options to sail north to Dominica or south to St Lucia depending on the weather and your itinerary preferences. How it works: Sailing Collective vacation packages come standard with a private Sailing Collective certified captain and chef trained with our unique sensibility of services adventure. This 7-night journey takes place on 40' - 60' monohulls and catamarans by request sleeping up to 8 guests aboard. We can accommodate a variety of packages from basic to all inclusive luxury. Week long private charters go from $11,000 to $25,000 + per week.
A Martinique / Dominica / St Lucia private charter season begins in November with pleasant weather through July with January to April being the peak months. We personalize the Sailing Collective 7-day vacation package to match your group's interest. A typical itinerary begins on a Sunday morning at 10:00 am and ends a 10:00 am the following Saturday. We have a variety of vacation package offerings including:

Dayyan Armstrong founded the Sailing Collective out of a passion for connecting people with the world through adventure and sailing. Having been raised with values based on multi-cultural awareness and the importance of global culture, Dayyan combined his enthusiasm for sailing and exploration to create an integrated sailing vacation organization open to adventures, explorers, and sailors alike. With a background in music performance, social theory, and a graduate degree in economics from the New School for Social Research, Dayyan is always excited to participate in discourse in topics of theory, art, adventure, and exploration. Outside sailing and exploration, Dayyan is passionate about cured meats, design, Maine, social theory, Cook’s Illustrated, a good museum, photography, Harper’s Magazine, and various types of cooking over fire or coals.
After graduating with a degree in Outdoor Education, Ross Beane has been relentless about sharing his love of wilderness travel with people wherever he goes. Having worked with programs from Alaska to Maine, he enjoys guiding students of all ages and abilities into beautiful and remote locations to foster technical know-how and an appreciation of the natural world. With multiple certifications in wilderness emergency medicine, he brings with him an understanding of risk management that keeps it safe without compromising fun. An avid sailor since youth, Ross has made many safe crossings and has taught sailing for The Wooden Boat School, New York Harbor Sailing Foundation, and the Manhattan Sailing School before joining Dayyan to help start the Sailing Collective.
Martinique is one of the shining jewels of the French Caribbean. Centrally located in the heart of the Caribbean archipelago, at 14 degrees 30 minutes north latitude and 61 degrees 0 minutes west longitude, Martinique is part of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles.
Christopher Columbus sighted the island on his first voyage in 1493, but didn't land there until his fourth expedition in 1502. Martinique officially became part of France in 1815. It became a Department of France in 1946, and was named a Region of France in 1974, and that remains its status. Martinique's capital, Fort de France, celebrates every aspect of French culture with style and panache – from the excellence of its cuisine to the chic sophistication of its fine resorts and hotels. Shops sell the latest French merchandise; art galleries, theaters and museums all pay homage that heritage.
Old men play Boules in the squares, while crowds sit at sidewalk cafés. Yet, an enticing West Indian warmth and friendliness, a special spice in its music, dance, local food and cultural roots, combine with everything French, to create a unique way of life. Martinique offers the classic Caribbean beaches-white sand on the south coast, black sand on the north coast. There are secluded coves perfect for swimming and snorkeling, reefs, unspoiled fishing villages, hot springs, lush rainforests, rugged peaks and exotic flowers and fruit everywhere.
Dominica, in contrast, is a diamond in the rough. A famed filming location for Pirates Of the Caribbean, it’s easy to be whisked back in time. By exploring the extensive hiking trails, you could visit a different waterfall on every day for a year in Dominica. Adventurous spirits can get deep into the cascading river valleys on a canyoneering expeditions or for a more relaxed vibe you can take a boat tour into the jungle right from the harbour in historic Portsmouth.

WHAT TO EXPECT ONBOARD
Each boat has between 4 to 8 guests aboard -some solo travelers, some couples, some friends, some groups, and some private boats. Each boat has a certified Sailing Collective captain and first mate will take care of all your needs throughout the week. Life aboard follows a family dynamic: we cook family style and we respect our fellow passengers as we would ourselves. A sailing vacation will change your outlook on life and expand your life experiences in a new unique and unforgettable way.
Although the accommodations differ from a hotel or a cruise ship you will quickly see the advantages of traveling on a sailing vessel as we visit hard to reach port towns and row ashore on abandoned beaches. Living space inside a sailboat is compact but comfortable. Cabins have small closets and cubbies for your belongings. Each boat has multiple heads (bathrooms) and showers. They are small, but you will be used to them shortly. Boats have a full galley (kitchen) and dining table below, but most meals will be set on a table in the cockpit on deck. The boats have refrigeration, 12 volt DC electricity (like in a car), stereos, and other amenities all fit together efficiently in the space available.
FOOD
Trips are provisioned with 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 3 dinners. Additional provisions can be purchased before departure at the near by grocery store at passengers own cost. Cooking aboard is family style and passengers volunteer for cooking and preparing food daily. All beverages including booze should be purchased before departure and is at each passengers own cost (generally beverages and booze is purchased as a group and split amongst all the passengers).
IMPORTANT: Those with dietary restrictions must inform The Sailing Collective captains ahead of time.

Payment for additional fees: Paid in cash to your captain or via PayPal and your captain will give you the information. You can also send gratuity to your captain through PayPal, ask your captain for instructions.
Saturday
Meet your captain and crew in the marina in the south of martinique. Today you will get settled in your new home for the week and spend the first night aboard.
Sunday
We cast off the dock lines and venture North on a short sail to Anse d'Arlet. Lunch on land and exploring the beach town, boutiques and local market.
Monday
Sail the steep volcanic coastline to St. Pierre, a former centre of economy that was destroyed by the eruption of Montagne Pelée in 1902. Overnight in the bay of St. Pierre.
Tuesday
Leave early for a long sail that will bring us to the island of Dominica where will make landfall at Portsmouth.
Wednesday
Explore Portsmouth in the morning and then back to the boats to head to Champaign Reef where bubbles filter through the coral from undersea volcanic activity. Tuck into Roseau for the night
Thursday
Move the boats over to Soufriere and go ashore to meet a local guide who will take us hiking to spectacular sights in the dense jungle interior of the island.
Friday
We make the crossing back to Martinique arriving at L'anse Dufour where we tuck into a small secluded cove for a last night on the boats.
Saturday
Sail the last leg to return to the marina that we started from and disembark after an amazing week of exploration

With a clean and obstacle-free deck, the Salina 48 affords easy movement and safe handling with an integrated saloon and cockpit that has generous entry access.
This catamaran is ideal for convivial entertaining with its social areas comprising a card table facing the sea, an L-shaped kitchen featuring a revolutionary new refrigeration system, an indoor and outdoor dining table plus exterior corner lounge.
A decadent sunbathing deck at the aft of the Salina 48 enjoys exceptional protection from the elements while underway and provides yet another idyllic setting for relaxation.
Each of the cabins boasts magnificent sea views from the spacious portholes while the low beds, private bathrooms with separate showers and passageways without thresholds enhance the vessel’s appeal.
With it remarkable performance and it excellent level of safety and comfort, the Catana 47 is, more than ever, setting the standard for offshore cruising. Perfected by the Catana yard, the new boat is almost 700kg lighter thanks to the use of carbon, already used on the production models for structural bulkheads, the coachroof and numerous structural reinforcements.A spacious and light interior provides great comfort for a offshore journeys.
