The Wellness expedition explores exotic waters of the Andaman Sea wonders via one of the most spectacular water routes along the Thailand coast starting in Phuket and sailing the stunning Phang Nga Bay. Beginning our voyage at Yacht Haven Marina in Phuket, we will make our first sail north through Phang Nga Bay to the floating village...onward past the archipelago of Yao Yai, a group of several islands which lay claim to some of Thailand's best-kept natural secrets. After several stops throughout Krabi, we'll head on to explore the infamous Ko Phi Phi islands, with an evening exploring the local nightlife ashore. Then it's off to dine at the island of Ko Racha looking over a secluded white sand beach.

Dayyan Armstrong founded the Sailing Collective out of a passion for connecting people with the world through adventure and sailing. Having been raised with values based on multi-cultural awareness and the importance of global culture, Dayyan combined his enthusiasm for sailing and exploration to create an integrated sailing vacation organization open to adventures, explorers, and sailors alike. With a background in music performance, social theory, and a graduate degree in economics from the New School for Social Research, Dayyan is always excited to participate in discourse in topics of theory, art, adventure, and exploration. Outside sailing and exploration, Dayyan is passionate about cured meats, design, Maine, social theory, Cook’s Illustrated, a good museum, photography, Harper’s Magazine, and various types of cooking over fire or coals.
Olivia is from the landlocked state of Arkansas, but she fell madly in love with sailing and now lives in California aboard, Juniper, her 38 ft. Ta Shing Panda sailboat. Olivia is a filmmaker who has directed three feature-length documentaries and produced television shows for both Vice and Lifetime. Her most recent film, Sailing A Sinking Sea, is about the mythology of a nomadic seafaring community in Thailand and Myanmar. When she's not directing, Olivia also spends all of her spare time being a nomad at sea. She has her ASA Bareboat Certification and more than 5,500 nautical miles of bluewater and offshore sailing experience. She has crewed sailboats from New York to Bermuda, New Zealand to Fiji, the San Blas Islands to Georgia, and tons of tiny places in between. @oliviao
After graduating with a degree in Outdoor Education, Ross Beane has been relentless about sharing his love of wilderness travel with people wherever he goes. Having worked with with programs from Alaska to Maine, he enjoys guiding students of all ages and abilities into beautiful and remote locations to foster technical know-how and an appreciation of the natural world . With multipul certications in wilderness emergency medicine he brings with him an understanding of risk management that keeps it safe without comprimising fun. An avid sailor since youth, Ross has made many safe crossings and has taught sailing for The Wooden Boat School, New York Harbor Sailing Foundation, and the Manhattan Sailing School before joining Dayyan to help start the Sailing Collective.
Lilly is a lifelong sailor and lover of the sea. As a new member of the Sailing Collective team, she brings many miles of experience on the ocean and an enthusiasm for exploration.
Katja Tausig grew up in London - a city whose rich cultural and culinary diversity inspired her to become a chef. After graduating culinary school she worked in several restaurants, learning from some of London’s best chefs. Katja's work as a chef enabled her to explore and refine diverse cuisines from Italian to Japanese and Classic British. Katja also devises menus for parties and events and is passionate about using food to connect people and create new experiences. After taking some time off to explore South America, she decided to make her dream of combining her love of cooking and travel come true. Katja is excited to journey to new corners of the World with the Sailing Collective, drawing on new experiences and old to create honest and seasonal menus to share with others.
Born and raised in sunny southern California, Christina has a natural connection with the sea. As a child, when she wasn’t at the beach swimming, surfing, boogie boarding or basking in the sun, she was in the kitchen with her parents helping prepare meals for her large family. Food has been a passion from an early age and stayed with her into her young adulthood. What started off as a hobby developed into a profession after she started catering for friends, word of mouth spread and soon she was cooking for events all over Orange County and San Francisco. During her travels through Central America, Christina discovered a new passion when invited to join a month long voyage sailing from Bocas Del Toro, Panama to Cartegena, Colombia. After cooking on a tiny sailboat for a month on the sea, Christina knew that she had to do it again. After a year of travels through Colombia she pursued her dream of cooking professionally on boats and started working on a classic Hereschoff based out of Connecticut. Since then she has cooked on boats in New England, the Caribbean and Alaska cruising, racing and delivering yachts and feeding crew and guests. Christina has a diverse scope of cuisine, and thrives on using fresh local ingredients wherever she may be. She is currently based in Melbourne, Australia where she has catered for film productions, manned the kitchen in popular Fitzroy cafes and consulted on menu development.
Vivian grew up in a culture where eating well was equivalent to living well, the ultimate expression of care and warmth. From seemingly incongruent beginnings in fashion design to event production to the creation of a pop-up dinner series, she realized that her real passion was for building community through the serving and sharing of beautifully presented meals. She remains curious about various methods of cooking and international flavors, finding constant joy while shopping local farmers’ markets throughout her travels.

In the heart of Southeast Asia Phuket nestles in balmy Andaman Sea on Thailand's Indian Ocean. These waters are endowed with unparalleled biodiversity and tropical beauty. Cruising sailors have long been drawn to the east coast of Phuket, this region was once one of the major trading routes between India and China and was frequently mentioned in foreign trader’s ship logs. Today the Andaman Sea is a cultural melting pot of indigenous Thais, Thai-Chinese, ethnic Malays and even Moken sea nomads. Diversity leads to unparalleled cuisine and an amazing travel experience that sets the Phuket area apart from other regions. Yacht Haven Phuket Marina
By Plane: International Airport of Phuket (Airport Code HKT) is located on the northern end of the Island close to Yacht Haven Marina.
Taxi from the Airport: At the Airport taxis are readily available upon arrival and transfer will take between 20 and 30 minutes. Walk out of the arrivals hall and immediately turn right – walk about 40-50 meters. You will see the metered taxi stand straight ahead labeled clearly with a large sign.
You should expect an immediate fee of $3 (฿100) airport tax. Transportation to everywhere on the island will be cheaper with these taxis. In total your taxi fare should not exceed $15 (฿550) to Yacht Haven Marina.
Rental Car: There are three reputable car rental companies in Phuket and although driving there is easy, there are guidelines to follow to stay safe – they are as follows:
Nai yang beach is around 2 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the marina.
Phuket Town is farther from the marina (about an hour drive) but it we think it's worth checking out the city before spending a week on the beaches.
A valid passport for each passenger and a crew list are compulsory for clearance.
Expiration date must be no earlier than 6 months after your planned return.
Local currency is "Baht"; euros & US $ are accepted in some places. There is a Currency Exchange Office located directly after the baggage claim where you can acquire Thai Baht (฿) if you haven’t previously done so. Taxis occasionally accept Euros or Dollars but buses won’t and in Thailand cash is king and always preferred although Mastercard & Visa is accepted in some places.
For a rough idea of conversion rates to U.S. Dollars remembering these approximate conversions may be helpful.
Sailing Collective will provision your journey with local foods and produce. Cooking Aboard: Your Sailing Collective crew is incredibly talented and can handle the group's needs with ease. We are all about participation and learning, so if you'd like to help, just ask and we'll get you involved! Collective groups may choose to dine out more times than scheduled if the group or individuals choose.
Please note, soft drinks, alcohol, wine, beer, etc. are not included in the provisioning package, but your crew can assist you in purchasing your desired beverages for your group.
Dietary Restrictions: It is important to notify your Sailing Collective representative of any dietary restrictions ahead of time and fill out details in Guest Form
In addition to exploring Thailand under sail, the following list may prove helpful in planning other aspects of your time with us. We're happy to arrange any extra activities for you at the base.
Snorkeling & Diving: The diving in Thailand is excellent. Clients must carry a PADI open water or equivalent qualification to be able to dive. Unqualified divers can do courses or resort dives. Prices range from center to center, but it usually costs between 2,500 Baht and 3,500 Baht per person for two dives and lunch. If a client wishes to dive while chartering with The Moorings, we recommend two good dive centers by our base -- Raya Divers on Koh Racha Yai and Barracuda Diving on Koh Phi Phi. The Similan Islands are a world-class diving destination and are accessible between November and April, subject to weather conditions. These islands are situated 60 miles Northwest of Patong and require a minimum charter duration of 7 days for a visit. Diving equipment can be supplied, if ordered in advance, and clients can arrange to meet up with a live-aboard dive operator at one of the dive sites for tank refills. Further information is available from the base on request. The Surin Islands are another 50 miles north of the Similans and also offer superb diving, but fewer dive operators visit them. The Similan and Surin Islands are National Parks and are subject to a daily entry fee, which will be collected on site. You will be asked to complete a waiver of responsibility form prior to departure from the base, if intending to cruise to the Similan or Surin Islands.
Collapsible bags in place of large rigid suitcases are advised for ease of transport on and off the boat.
During days on the water, you’ll want to be wearing light and comfortable clothing. As the vast majority of your time will be spent outside, prepare for elements - bring a light rain coat just in case, a hat to shield yourself from the sun, and a set of warm clothing. Throughout the week we may dine out at a nice restaurant, so bring gear that you’ll look nice in and suits your style. Loading and unloading from the dingy can be a wet activity, a pair of shoes that you can get wet is recommended.
